Kumamoto Castle
Kumamoto Castle, built in the early 17th century, is one of Japan’s most impressive and historically significant castles. It is famous for its majestic main keep and steep, curved stone walls—known as musha-gaeshi—designed to repel attackers. Having overcome severe damage from the 2016 earthquakes, the beautifully restored castle now stands as a powerful symbol of the region's resilience.
The perimeter of Kumamoto Castle is 3km, and it is perfect for running.
